Traveling Wave-Based Transmission Line Earth Fault Distance Protection

چکیده
This paper proposes a one-terminal traveling wave (TW)-based transmission line earth fault distance protection function. It only needs the detection of first incident modal fault-induced TWs, so that, challenging wavefronts reflected from point is not required. Both sampling frequency effect and inaccuracies on propagation velocity are considered in order to define zone. Simulated records were played back an actual relay, allowing comparison between commercially existing time-domain element proposed one. The function more accurate significantly reduces tripping times without dependability losses.
